The Eid Edit | An Aje Guide To Modest Occasionwear

One of the most important festivals on the Islamic calendar, Eid—short for Eid al-Fitr—is a time to spend and feast with loved ones, often in brand-new Eid outfits bought specially for celebrating.

And if you are in search of an ensemble fit for the day, or simply in need of some styling ideas, consider this your go-to guide to modest occasionwear.

From luxurious dresses to elegant sets and layered looks, keep reading to find effortless modest outfits to celebrate Eid in style.

Eid Dresses

When it comes to both modest outfits and party outfits, there is perhaps no wardrobe foundation more effortless than a dress. Designed with long sleeves, modest dresses with maxi hems featuring long sleeves and higher necklines offer effortless coverage, while hints of hardware, hand-painted prints and head-turning hues ensure a festive flourish.

If you prefer midi-length or sleeveless Eid dresses, add tapered pants or layer a long-sleeve knit underneath for additional coverage, then finish with accessories—some jewellery, an embellished heel and a statement handbag—to complete your look.

Elegant Sets

If you favour the versatility of matching separates, consider an elegant set a must-have in your festive wardrobe. Ideal for a myriad of Eid celebrations, turn to crisp tailoring in the form of layer-ready blazer and pants with textural details for a sophisticated soirée look or make an impression with a full-sleeve shirt with panelled pants cut from sumptuous vegan leather for strong head-to-toe statement. For added appeal, look to pieces with unique hardware, embellishment or unexpected details for an elevated finish.

Layered Looks

Embrace the art of layering for Eid by centring your look around an elevated coat or a jacket with ornate embellishments and textural trims. Build your ensemble by mixing in textural turtlenecks that can be worn under dresses—particularly under those with cut-outs and short sleeves—or consider a pair of matching pants finished with shimmering hardware for an eye-catching touch.

Festive Accessories

Whether you favour maximalism or prefer to walk on the minimalist side, no Eid outfit is complete without a beautiful accessory—or two—to finish it with flair. Bejewelled shoes, embellished ankle boots and sculptural handbags present effortless ways to enhance and uplift pared-back or monochrome outfits, while streamlined clutches and subtle chain jewellery with clear gems bring a delicate flourish to bolder ensembles.

What is Eid?

Eid is a religious holiday that occurs at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, to signify the breaking of the fast.

An abbreviation for ‘Eid al-Fitr’, which is Arabic for ‘Festival of Breaking Fast’, Eid is a time for connection, reflection and celebration within the Muslim community. Following the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid takes place on the first day of the Shawwal—the tenth Islamic month.

As Muslims come from various cultures, celebratory traditions can vary, however, some rituals are embraced universally. These include prayer, feasts, giving to charity, wearing new clothes—often buying special Eid outfits for the occasion—and spending time with family, friends and community.

Aje has long recognised the importance of inclusion, a founding principle of the brand, and takes pride in creating pieces—such as those within The Eid Edit—fit for all different cultural celebrations.
