BEHIND ‘UNFURLED’

Before ‘Unfurled’ made its Paris debut, it took shape in the Aje Sydney atelier – developed through sketches, fittings, fabric trials and the hands of the artisans who brought each idea into form.

At the heart of the process is a fascination with the way a flower opens, expands and transforms. This becomes a starting point for the collection, translated not literally, but through construction, volume and unexpected details.

Across the atelier, garments evolve through experimentation. Fabrics are manipulated, surfaces are built up, and details are refined by hand, with each fitting revealing new ways for the garments to move and hold their shape.

Petals are individually formed and layered, beadwork is applied by hand, and intricate surfaces are developed through hours of detailed craftsmanship. Elsewhere, fabrics are distressed, finishes are disrupted, and hardware is introduced, creating a tension between the delicate and the raw.

It is this harmony between precision and imperfection that gives ‘Unfurled’ its tone – where meticulous workmanship meets spontaneous, tactile and alive gestures.
