Behind The Scenes |
Sustainability and Fabrications in
AJE ATHLETICA

From the outset, AJE ATHLETICA, the new athleticwear capsule, was created by Creative Directors Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest with the goal of being the most sustainable collection to date, with 70% of AJE ATHLETICA made using consciously-sourced materials. The capsule has the feel of luxurious quality at first touch, with no compromise on performance or wearability.

The Aje designers recognise the balance between humanity and planet Earth is the ultimate in wellness. Therefore the sustainably led athleticwear designs incorporate organic cotton, as well as recycled nylon and recycled polyester - using fibres that are recreated from discarded materials, giving a second life to these otherwise disposed of materials. As a commitment to considering this sustainable endeavour, AJE ATHLETICA packaging consists of polybags made from 100% compostable material, eliminating the contribution to landfill.

This capsule echoes Pillar 6 of Aje Aware; to continuously work towards adopting sustainable practices in design. Be a part of our journey as we continue to strive for the betterment of our affects on planet earth.

A coveted eco-conscious material for those seeking comfortability and breathability is 100% organic cotton. Found in the AJE ATHLETICA tees in Long T-shirt 003, High Crew Neck T-Shirt 010, Graphic T-Shirt 024 and Cropped T-shirt 006, the 100% organic cotton fibres are certified by the Global Organic Cotton Textile Standard. The natural processes in the organic cotton production cycle align to organic agricultural standards, and the fibre allows comfortable wearability wherever your journey may take you.

Recycled nylon has been used in the AJE ATHLETICA Yoga Sports Bra 002, Sports Bra 023, Racer Back Sports Bra 013, High Rise Full Length Legging, High Rise Bike Shorts 018 and Short Bike Shorts 017, where the fibres are recreated from discarded industrial materials including fishing nets; a solution to divert rubbish from the ecosystem of our oceans. Despite being recycled, no compromise is made on durability and stretch within the fibres. Moisture wicking properties in this lycra range also quickly transfer perspiration to the top layer of the fibre and quickly dries to ensure it will not soak through the fibres.

Recycled polyester has been used for the Cropped Puffer Jacket 001 and the Puffer Jacket 025, both central pieces to the AJE ATHLETICA capsule. This process saves materials from landfill in a closed loop process, giving a second life to these otherwise disposed of materials.
